Minerva Park

The Village of Minerva Park is an independent village in Columbus, OH. It began as Minerva Amusement Park in 1895. Minerva Park has its' own Mayor, Council and full time Police Department.

Minerva Park, aka Village of Minerva Park, is located in NE Columbus, off Cleveland Avenue. It is south of SR 161 (Dublin Granville Road), east of Cleveland Avenue and as far south as Maplewood Avenue. When founded Minerva Park was a zoo and amusement park in 1895.

A wikipedia description:  The village land was founded as a trolley park, also named Minerva Park. The park had a roller coaster, a small zoo, a lake, and other attractions. The park opened July 13, 1895. It operated until 1902, after Olentangy Park outcompeted Minerva Park. For its later history, the site became a graveyard for discarded streetcars. The park's owner unsuccessfully pleaded with Westerville to preserve the amusement park. The site was vacant until 1927, when construction of the subdivision began. The village was incorporated in 1940.

The area of Minerva Park has a long and colorful story from it's beginnings as an amusement park and casino. Then for a period it was a great collection of rail cars no longer in service and the beginnings of the current residential community starting around 1927. In addition to Minerva Lake there is a park and probably one of the best pools in the greater Columbus area. There was also a golf course which eventually became the most recent area developed with additional new housing.

A new elementary school is open as well. The location is very convenient to many shops, restaurants, the Easton Mall; plus, quick access to 1-270, I-71, Route 161, Morse Road and Route 3, Westerville Road. There are some one acre plus sized lots at the northern end off Jordan Rd and a good mix of old and some newer homes in Minerva Park.

From the Minerva Park website:

Minerva Park has its' own Mayor, Council and full time Police Department. There is a Planning and Zoning Commission as well. In 2016 there was an annexation of the Minerva Lake Golf Course and 250 homes were added to the 550+ existing homes.

Minerva Park has several green spaces, pathways, a playground, and a public pool. There are two 'lakes' in the neighborhood and several ponds in the plats where the golf course used to be. Wildlife is often seen throughout the Village.

Hawthorne Elementary is located within Minerva Park. Westerville City Schools added two additional schools in Minerva Park. Minerva France Elementary opened in the fall of 2022, and Minerva Park Middle School began to hold classes in August of 2023. Minerva Park is also home to office spaces, grocery stores, and other small businesses.

The Minerva Park Community Association is separate from the Village Government but they offer community activities such as garden tours, community garage sales, arts festivals, children's parties and Christmas' carriage rides. Visit mympca.org to learn more about this terrific organization.
